It was a mild day in December when Shrik K. of Glen Falls, VA realized there might have been a problem. Because of the mild weather, he attempted to turn down the temperature on his home’s heating system, and noticed that after reaching the correct number, the system continued to run, increasing the temperature in the house again.
After giving it a few days and trying to reset his thermostat, his heating system would still not turn off. He decided to put in a call to HomeServe – Shrik had enrolled in the Premium Heating and Cooling repair plan, which meant that if something in his heating or cooling system needed to be repaired, he’d likely be covered at no cost to him. After he explained the situation, a local and reliable member of our contractor network, Automatic Climate Heating and Air Conditioning, was sent out to the scene.
“From the first call, I felt heard and that I would be taken care of,” said Shrik. “This was definitely something I wanted to get resolved quickly.”
The technician from Automatic Climate ran some diagnostic tests, and ultimately determined that it was the thermostat that needed to be replaced. The repair was made, and all was well with Shrik’s heating system for a short while. But soon enough, the problem started again.
“I sometimes work an overnight shift from home, and at about midnight, I heard the heating system running when it shouldn’t have been,” said Shrik. “The only way to get it to stop was to manually lower the setting to under 60 degrees Fahrenheit.”
After another call to HomeServe, Automatic Climate was dispatched back out to Shrik’s home. Further testing showed that two different sensors and a related part would also need to be replaced. Luckily for him, these repairs would also be completely covered under his HomeServe repair plan.
“I knew that they’d get to the bottom of it, and I’m grateful that HomeServe and the contractor didn’t give up,” said Shrik. “I genuinely appreciated how honest everybody was with me through the whole repair process.”

The replacement of those final parts fixed Shrik’s heating system for good, saving him over $1,100 in the process and the stress of getting to the bottom of the situation.
“I’ve been a HomeServe customer for a very long time and have several repair plans, but have rarely needed to use them,” said Shrik. “But this experience shows how great the value is, and I have recommended HomeServe to many colleagues and friends as a great investment.”
