When Judy and her husband heard gurgling from a toilet in their Grove, Oklahoma, home, they tried everything – plunging the toilet and even using an auger they had on hand, but nothing worked. Then grey water started coming up in their shower.
“I had almost forgotten we had this coverage,” Judy said.
They had originally learned about HomeServe through information from their local energy utility, first enrolling in a plan covering their exterior electrical connection, followed by plans covering their exterior water and sewer service lines.
“We thought it would be beneficial,” she said.
Luckily, Judy did remember that she had enrolled in one of the emergency repair plans from HomeServe, and she gave us a call, and a local, licensed and qualified plumber, Mallory Plumbing LLC of Chelsea, Oklahoma, was dispatched.

“They snaked it, then they used a longer snake, and (the problem) ended up being clear out at the end,” she said. “The camera was kind of cool, that they were able to put a camera down there.”
After a round of augering and hydrojetting Judy’s sewer line, the Mallory Plumbing team determined that there was a break in the sewer line and twenty feet of the line would have to be replaced so that the drains in the home could flow freely again.
“Mallory Plumbing was awesome from the beginning to the end,” Judy said. “We couldn’t have had a better plumber contacted. She explained everything, texted me and kept in close contact. The HomeServe app told me when they were leaving to come here and when the job was finished. They came out maybe three or four times and came out and met with the city inspector. Then, as they were finishing up, it had gotten too wet to get their backhoe out there and there were two men filling in the trench until well after dark. It was cold and wet, but they stayed out there until the job was done. They were very good.”

The cost to repair the line was more than $5,000, but Judy’s emergency repair plan covered the cost, and she didn’t have to pay a single dime, since HomeServe paid Mallory Plumbing directly.
“I would have had to dig into my rainy-day fund,” she said. “I had the money, but it would have been impactful at this time.”
After this experience and after speaking to the team at Mallory Plumbing, she is considering enrolling in yet another plan to protect her interior plumbing.
“It was a good experience,” Judy said. “I’m glad I had HomeServe, even though I’m not the type to buy extra coverage.”
