Dallas Homeowner Saves Nearly $7,500 After Enrolling in HomeServe Gas Line Protection

Edward M. of Dallas was on the phone with a HomeServe customer experience agent to arrange a repair to his sewer line when he told the agent he wished that HomeServe offered coverage for his gas line as well.

So, he was glad to hear that HomeServe offered that very product.

“I called in the (plumbing) claim and said, ‘boy, I wish you had a gas line plan,’ and the agent I was talking to said they had it, so I enrolled at that time,” he said. “Now I have sewer, water, general plumbing and gas with HomeServe.”

Edward had been satisfied with his prior experiences having his plumbing repaired through HomeServe’s emergency home repair plans, and he was eager to add more protections to his home. Months passed, and Edward was glad he had enrolled in the gas plan when he caught the tell-tale odor of natural gas outside his home.

“It was just a faint whiff of gas. A plumber came out and put some pressure on the line and it just dropped,” he said. “I called it in, and the gas company came out and turned it off.”

Once he’d made the call to the local utility, he made a second one to HomeServe.

“The whole service, from start to finish, the HomeServe agent was great, the contractor was exceptional, and the trenchers were terrific,” he said. “And it was a substantial claim.”

The cost was nearly $7,500 to replace 70 feet of gas line at Edward’s home, and hand digging was required, meaning the contractor, IC Plumbing, needed a team to dig along Edward’s gas line without disturbing any other utility connections.

“They were out here for seven hours in 105-degree heat and did a perfect job, even put all the sod back on top once they filled the trench back in. I couldn’t have scripted it better.”

Edward didn’t need his gas-powered fireplace in the summer heat, but he did miss his hot showers while the repair was being made. He also was glad that it wasn’t winter, so he didn’t have to worry about his furnace not working.

“I didn’t have a plan if I didn’t have a HomeServe plan,” Edward said. “I never thought about it. Something like this, you’re waiting for the left shoe to drop, but it never did. The communication was excellent, and the HomeServe agents should be commended.”

“The plumber was extremely communicative – the owner was running back and forth between job sites, but he made sure to tell me what they were doing. They did things they didn’t have to do, like put in an extra shut-off valve by the house and flush the water tank. I’m not normally moved in this day and age, but everyone did more and above what they had to do.”
