Roy of Metairie, Louisiana woke up one recent June morning and did the very first thing he always does – let his puppy outside to use the bathroom. Their daily routine is always the same. The dog leaves the house through the kitchen door, does what she needs to do, and heads back into the house through the garage. But not this time. On this morning, his pup was taking longer than usual to finish her business. Or so he thought!

“All of the sudden, I heard the sound of her lapping up water,” recalled Roy. “Lo and behold, she was drinking from a puddle of about 2 inches of water that accumulated in my garage.”

Roy looked around to try to diagnose the problem. The first thing he did was disconnect the washing machine to see if it helped. He plugged in his wet-dry vac, turned it on and proceeded to suck up five gallons of water. With the water cleaned up, he hooked up the washing machine and ran it through a cycle.

“It was clear that it wasn’t the washing machine that was causing the problem,” said Roy. “I did notice a bit of water seeping in one corner wall of my garage a few days later, though. That was my cue to call HomeServe.”

In the span of those couple days, another few inches of water accumulated on the floor of the garage. When HomeServe’s local contractor, One Call Inc, arrived at the scene, it was clear that there was a larger issue brewing.

The plumber with One Call used a leak detection device to locate a leak underneath the slab supporting Roy’s home. In addition, there was a leak in the internal drain line behind the kitchen sink and in the dishwasher supply line, which was the root cause of the water draining into the garage. One Call was able to finish the repair, saving Roy over $1,150.

"The gentleman that took care of the issue was extremely helpful and nice, right along with the HomeServe agents that helped coordinate this fix,” said Roy. “I’ve never regretted becoming a HomeServe customer and don’t see that changing.”

“We had lost our first home after Hurricane Katrina, so having an issue like this is always extra stressful for me, especially because it coincided with my grandkids graduating and wanting to give them gifts,” said Roy. “But this experience saved us quite a bit of money and worry. I haven’t seen the water reappear since the contractor completed the repair”

Roy has been a HomeServe customer for nearly ten years, and initially heard of the optional offerings through family members. He’s had to use various repair plans several times since, saving him thousands of dollars in the process over the years.

“The gentleman that took care of the issue was extremely helpful and nice, right along with the HomeServe agents that helped coordinate this fix,” said Roy. “I’ve never regretted becoming a HomeServe customer and don’t see that changing.”
